Food Handling Training Program

Health Department Course Cost: $20.00
Tuesday 2 pm & Fridays 9 am.
Please arrive 15 minutes early to register.
Off-site Food Handler Courses This class must be scheduled 48 hours in advance.
Cost: $250.00 for the session, does not include certificates. $20.00 for each certificate. Please call (956) 795-4904 to scheduled.

Online Food handler Training

The City of Laredo Health department does not own or run the online classes. Issues with website must be taken up with the respective program.

New Businesses

The following businesses must obtain a permit from the Health Department:

  • Any Commercial Food Establishment
  • Mobile Food Establishments (including carts and raspa trucks)
  • Tire shops/ Mobile tire services (Must be signed of by the building and zoning officials)
  • Public or Semi Public Pools
  • Tattoo and body piercing Shops (Must be approved by the Texas Department of Health Services first and obtain a special use permit from the building department)
  • Schools
  • Commercial Adult and Child Day Care Facilities

Downloadable applications are available.

Day Care and Foster Homes can also obtain an Environmental Health Assessment Inspection for a fee of $75.00

All establishments must complete a New Business Application with the City of Laredo Building & Zoning Department.

Mobile Food Establishments

Currently the pilot program for food trucks has closed and awaiting the passing of new city ordinance.

Temporary Licenses

Temporary license can be obtained for Plate sales and Special Events.

Plate sales:

Cost: $20.00 a Day
Food items cannot be prepared at home.
Food must be prepared on site or obtained from a licensed establishment. Receipts or donation letter must be brought in as proof.

Special Events:

Cost: Varies with event organized
Food items must be prepared on site or at a licensed food establishment.
